How To Get Your Child Excited About the Dentist

Published on September 27th, 2018

It’s not surprising that your child isn’t ecstatic about oral health, or their first visit to their South Loop dentist. As soon as your child’s first tooth appears, normally around six months, they are at risk for decay. As your child gets older, it may become difficult to get them excited about keeping their teeth clean. Here are some tips to make this easier!

Educate Your Kids

If your child doesn’t know the detrimental side effects of not taking proper care of their teeth, they don’t have any motivation to keep them clean. Look for books about oral hygiene and healthy teeth and gums to read to your child. There are also multiple dental apps designed to make a trip to your South Loop dentist more enjoyable.

Reward Them

Don’t go overboard, but if you reward your child with a small treat after brushing their teeth twice a day for an entire week, they are more likely to want to brush their teeth. A trip to their favorite restaurant or to see a movie will motivate your children to work towards their goal.

Make it a Family Activity

By brushing your teeth with your child, you are showing them that it is something that everyone does and it’s not scary! This is also a great time for a family bonding opportunity.

At South & West Loop Dental, we suggest getting your child to a pediatric dentist by their first birthday. Make sure you and your child visit our South Loop dentist regularly to ensure that there are no dental issues and for a regular cleaning.
